Training Review Week 18/11/13

If you want to know what a crap week looks like, this is it ! After the race on Sunday I injured my foot and decided to take a day off to see how it would go, we were going to Belgium on the Friday to the track cycling (see here) which unfortunately meant with me trying to get work all sorted in 3 days, one day off became 4 and it was soon Friday. Having a weekend off drinking is just that, there was no SBR going on and although it didn’t make for a great training week, it felt great to chill out with my wife and a few good friends over a beer or 10...

Training Review Week 11/11/13

Well this was a week of contrast, 2 key measures in one week and both an indicator of what work needs to be done. With a slow start to the week I could see a CP20 in my horizon, if you don’t know what this is, its a way of testing current 20 min bike fitness by repeating a test of all out effort for 20mins on the turbo and taking the average watts for this time, this result can then be used for setting training interval sets and even extrapolated into race efforts for all distances. I am hesitant to advocate this 100% myself as even though Hunter and Allen are the experts, my experience is that...

Training Review Week 04/11/13

Not a good start to the week as we were at a wedding on the Sunday and the Monday was a driving and recovery day from Cardiff, the weekend was a great chance to catch up with good mates and celebrate a lovely couples day, having the day off was essential 🙂   I also reduced the Sunday ride as it was indoors on the Computrainer, steady but with no breaks, always good to thump out an even power ride when the weather is awful outside. My running is starting to show some improvement but I am still way too heavy to be making inroads to early PB’s in 2014, more effort on the nutrition...

Training Review Week 28/10/13

With a wedding to go to on the Sunday and no chance to train I decided to get my long ride in Saturday which meant an early start, to be honest we are still very lucky in the North West with the weather and I seem to be making the most of the time we have before the big freeze sets in. I did however seem to miss the point of ‘focus on running’ and probably should have hit the long run instead, but happy with another 10hrs+...

Training Review Week 21/10/13

Another good week for me, over 10 hours with the shortfall in swimming, my main focus is running and missing the odd swim isn’t a huge concern, happy with a bit more consistency This is becoming a bit easier as it starts to form habitual behaviour, almost addictive 🙂      ...

Training Review Week 14/10/13

My first week of nearly 100% completion was spurred on by me signing up with a new coach, Chris Standidge. Change of direction in terms of the sessions I will be doing and gearing up to get fit and I hope to lose a few pounds to get me moving faster and enjoying what I am doing. Focus has moved to running and making time for the days I have away from home. This week was also the first time I have got into the gym for 2 solid sessions for a while and after Friday, it actually took me until Sunday to feel completely fine with my inner thighs after the attempts at squats had to be...

Training Review Week 07/10/13

Well, week 4 of the ‘getting started’ was a better week in terms of days training but the load was still low, I planned a full week but left out the main run on the Saturday to make time for family as Kelly is slowly coming to terms with the training and how we fit in together. I haven’t set myself any targets in terms of testing yet but this will come, I have at least a swim CSS to record, a CP20 on the bike and a timed 10k to work out training efforts and intensities, I am sure this will all happen before Xmas. I have a meeting with someone interesting next week regarding my training...

Training Review Week 30/09/13

Another attempt to hit the whole week was ruined by work early in the week. Good end to the week with another 3 hour ride in the bank, felt better but failed to do any running, I am hopeful this will come together once I sort out my weekly format. I am trying a few other things and changing my day away in Northampton so that will mean a little  bit more...

Training Review Week 23/09/13

I already knew I was going to struggle to complete a full week as still feeling unwell but I wanted to run the plan as it stood then I could pick and choose the sessions I wanted on the days I felt better. It doesn’t make me feel any better to see red but I also don’t want to hide from it.   The long bike on the Sunday is still making me stronger I feel but as you can see the extra 30 mins meant I never got the run in as it was family time when I got home.  ...

Training Review Week 16/09/13

Baby steps. OMG, my first week trying to get back didn’t go so well, the charts show my week that I planned and the colour coding tells the sorry story. RED is bad, yellow is either over or under the planned time, so this can be construed as bad all of the time but if I plan a 2 hour ride and do 3 I will take it. Green are the completed sessions to within 10% of planned times. As you can see I trained on the Monday but doing this with a sore throat didn’t go as well for me for the rest of the week. By Tuesday I was completely bunged up and suffering the usual...
